In short

What a frameless glass enclosure is

A frameless glass enclosure is a row of glass panels that slide on a track and stack to one side, with no vertical frames between them. Closed, it shelters a porch, terrace or balcony from wind and rain while keeping the view; open, the space is as it was before. The price is €299–419 per square metre of glass + VAT, installation included, with a 15-year written warranty (5 years on seals).

Porches

A villa porch becomes a bright room in spring and autumn and opens completely in summer.

Terraces and verandas

Glass on the open sides of a covered terrace, or under a pergola, to use it on windy days.

Balconies and loggias

In flats, the most common use: sheltered balconies that stay open to the view.

Arched openings

Arches and curved walls can often be closed too: the survey measures the geometry and confirms how.

Planning: on projecting balconies and recessed loggias, removable glass enclosures that do not create a permanently closed space are generally free building works under Italian law (art. 6 of Presidential Decree 380/2001). Condominium rules, façade design and landscape constraints still apply, and porches are checked case by case. The price refers to the glazed surface, measured at the survey.

Questions

Questions about glass enclosures

How much does a glass enclosure cost in Puglia?
€299–419 per square metre of glass + VAT, installation included. The exact price depends on height, number of panels, glass type and accessories, and is written in the quotation within 24 hours of the survey.
Does it insulate like a window?
No. A sliding glass enclosure shelters from wind and rain but is ventilated by law; if you need to insulate a heated room, the answer is a window, not an enclosure.
Do I need planning permission?
On balconies and loggias, removable glass enclosures are generally free building works if they do not create a permanently closed space. Porches, protected areas and condominium rules are checked before the project.
What does the warranty cover?
The written warranty lasts 15 years, 5 on seals, from the date of the signed handover report at the end of the installation.
Can you enclose an arched porch?
It depends on the shape and size of the opening. At the survey we measure it and tell you whether and how panels can be fitted, before any quotation.
