Vertical screens whose fabric edge runs inside the side guides, so it stays taut and does not flap. For pergolas, porches, terraces and outdoor dining areas in the provinces of Bari, Foggia, Barletta-Andria-Trani and Taranto in Puglia, Matera and Potenza in Basilicata and Avellino in Campania.

In short

What a ZIP screen is

A ZIP screen is a vertical outdoor blind whose fabric has a zip-like edge that runs inside the side guides. Because the fabric is held along both sides, it stays taut instead of billowing, and it closes the gap where insects would get in. It goes on pergolas, porches, terrace openings and outdoor dining areas. The price depends on width, height, fabric and motor, and is set after the survey.

Low afternoon sun

On the west side of a terrace or pergola, the screen cuts glare while you can still see outside.

Privacy

Towards neighbours or the road, a filtering fabric gives shade and privacy without closing you in.

Insects

With the fabric held in the guides, the space under a pergola is easier to keep free of mosquitoes in the evening.

Outdoor dining

For restaurants and hotels, side screens make the tables usable when the sun is low or the evening turns cool.

Choosing the fabric

Filtering or blackout

Filtering fabric

Lets you see out and lets air through, while cutting direct sun and glare. The usual choice for terraces and pergolas.

Blackout fabric

Blocks the light: for bedrooms facing a terrace, or spaces you want completely screened.

Motor

Motorised operation is the norm on wide or high openings; the configuration is agreed at the survey.

In Italy outdoor blinds are generally among the works that need no building permit, provided they do not create a permanently closed volume. In condominiums the façade rules apply, and we check them with you.

Questions

Questions about ZIP screens

How much does a ZIP screen cost?
It depends on width, height, fabric and motor. We measure at the survey and you receive a written, itemised quotation within 24 hours.
Can a ZIP screen be fitted to an existing pergola?
Often yes, if the structure can take the side guides. We check it at the survey.
Will I still see outside?
With a filtering fabric, yes: you see out while the sun and glare are cut. A blackout fabric blocks the view as well as the light.
Do I need a permit?
Generally not for outdoor blinds that do not create a closed volume. Condominium and façade rules are checked before installation.
