In short

When uPVC windows make sense, and when they do not

uPVC is a material for window frames: multi-chamber profiles with internal reinforcement, which you clean and never repaint. It copes well with damp and salt air, which matters on the coast. It makes sense when you replace existing windows in a heated room and the problem is draughts, condensation, noise or energy bills. It does not make sense when the goal is to close a balcony or a porch: that is a job for a glass enclosure, which follows different rules.

What we install

The specification, in plain terms

Profile

76 mm deep, six chambers, three seals, with a steel reinforcement inside: it is the reinforcement that keeps the frame square over the years.

Glass

Triple glazing with two laminated safety panes, two cavities and a warm-edge spacer. The glass alone has a Ug of 0.6 W/m²K.

Whole window

Uw from 0.89 to 0.99 W/m²K, frame included, calculated piece by piece on the windows of a real 2026 supply.

Your quotation

The Uw of each of your windows is written in the quotation next to the item, not a single laboratory figure.

Why a range and not one number: a larger window has proportionally more glass and less frame, so its value changes with size. A single figure usually refers to the profile tested in a laboratory, not to the window that is installed in your home.

Questions

Questions about uPVC windows

How much do uPVC windows cost?
It depends on the number of windows, their sizes, openings and accessories. We measure every opening at the survey and you receive a written, itemised quotation within 24 hours, with the Uw of each window.
Are uPVC windows suitable near the sea?
uPVC copes well with damp and salt air and does not need repainting, which is why it is a common choice on the coast.
Can you replace the windows of a house I am renovating from abroad?
Yes. We survey the openings on site, with you or a person you trust, and agree the details on the written quotation. If a builder is handling the renovation, we can coordinate the timing with them.
Do you close balconies with uPVC windows?
No. Closing a balcony or a porch is a job for a glass enclosure, which follows different rules from a window.
